F.A.Q.
Why a Paso Peruano?.. The Paso Peruano combines the smoothest gait in the world with the most spectacular style. Guarantee that, when you see a Paso Peruano in action, your heart will beat faster. Once you have ridden one, the feeling will be engraved in your memory and you will want more… During the Arequipa Conference in Peru someone said that the companionship with Pasos is in fact a Natural Medicine, preventing or curing a large number of modern “diseases”. The more Gerda and I think about it the more we feel that this is right. One says: “Once a Paso, always a Paso” Back Are Pasos difficult to keep?.. Pasos are strong horses; our experience is that they feel at their best with open stables with or close to other horses.n. Back Do Pasos have summer-itch?.. Summer-itch occurs rarely with Pasos, comparable or less than with other non-Icelandic breeds. Back Can Pasos be well kept under control?.. Although we have ridden hundreds of Pasos, no single-one ever has runned away with us (Contrary to some other breeds!). We always recommend owners of a horse of whatever breed to learn the basics of Natural Horsemanship. Back Is DLSD a problem with Pasos?.. DSLD is a horse disease that attacks the ligaments. Pasos are one of the breeds where it occurs; the degree of occurrence is below 1%. Today there is NO test to determine whether a horse will have the disease in the future. Until then the risk can be greatly reduced by buying from large breeders who utilize parent-animals and bloodlines a lot, resulting in much better knowledge of the genetic patrimony.Today there is NO test to determine whether a horse will have the disease in the future. Until then the risk can be greatly reduced by buying from large breeders who utilize parent-animals and bloodlines a lot, resulting in much better knowledge of the genetic patrimony. This is one of the reasons why we buy or animals in the U.S.. Breeders in the U.S. do not hesitate to eliminate foals with less well confirmation. This is one of the reasons why we buy or animals in the U.S. Read also the attachment. Back Why do you import from the U.S.?.. We know the important breeders now since several years and visit at least once a year several ranches. All these people have an expert-team of collaborators help them raise and train the horses. We usually look at and/or ride some 100 horses. By having such a large choice of professionally trained horses and by buying with the best breeders, we are able to offer our clients an exceptional quality. Our clients are our best reference. Back Are Pasos expensive?.. Prices of Pasos are comparable with other gaited horses such as Icelandic-horses. Our horses are offered at very interesting price/quality ratio’s. Back Is importing from the U.S. not more expensive?.. Because of our experience our prices are comparable with the prices for Pasos in Europe. Back Is this transport not too much stress for the horses?.. All changes of location or group cause stress to horses. We take care that our horses spend the quarantine together with their “travel-buddies” at the ranch. The transport itself is “Business-class” and under professional supervision. The flight to the Benelux takes some 8 hours. Back Is it for price reasons not more interesting to buy a Paso foal or a non-trained horse??.. We recommend to everyone who buys his first Paso, to purchase a well-trained horse. If one is new to the breed, it is difficult to make good decisions regarding foals or non-ridden horses. The training is quite specific and will determine to a large extent the joy one will get from riding. Many times we hear that people only realize this too late. If one takes into account when comparing prices the costs for raising the horse and possible external support for training then the difference become far less. And with a ready horse one start to enjoy right away. It can be an option for your second Paso. Back I do not want to ride in competitions, I only want to do outside riding, so what? Contrary to other breeds and disciplines (jumping, dressage...) the things that are being judged at Paso-shows are those that are also important for leisure riding: quality of the gait, endurance... Good competition horses are therefore most of the time good leisure horses and vice versa. Back Where do I find courses and common activities.. In Europe there are already 1000 Pasos. We organize regularly courses. Back What is an Aegidiënberger?.. An Aegidiënberger is a cross between a Paso Peruano and an Icelandic horse with the intention of creating a somewhat taller, nobler and easier tölting Icelandic horse. Owners of Icelandic horses use our stallion MLM NAPOLI for this purpose. Back Why are you using the Parelli-method with your Pasos?.. Gerda and I feel that Parelli (and other Natural Horsemanship methods) is the missing link for having a safer and more natural relation between non-professionals and horses; with greater satisfaction for both as a consequence. Since our horses will know the principles, the contact with a new person, who has learned those skills, will be easier. Back Where do I find a good article on Paso-riding?.. One of the best articles in our opinion is the one by Eduard van Brunschot Website: www.perolchico.com/english/ridingperuvianpaso.html Back
